Tomlinson to the Jets

LaDainian Tomlinson finally made his choice today: the New York Jets.  Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Jets and Tomlinson agreed upon a two-year deal.  This past week, L.T. visited both the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets, but finally agreed to join the backfield of the Jets.  He will join Shonn Greene in the backfield, and hopefully replace some of Thomas Jones' production.  Jones, who spent the past three years as a Jet, was released this off season and has since then joined the Kansas City Chiefs.  

Larry Johnson Reaches Agreement with Redskins

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Washington Redskins have agreed on a contract with RB Larry Johnson today.  He will come into training camp as the no. 2 running back behind Clinton Portis.  Johnson, who fell out of favor with both the fans and team in Kansas City, was released and then picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals, where he averaged 4.4 yards on 46 carries.  The deal has incentive clauses that, if met, would push the contract up to $12 million over 3 years.  

Brackett, Colts Agree to Deal

Indianapolis Colts  Defensive Captain, Gary Brackett, will be staying with his team according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  Early this morning, Brackett agreed to a deal that will keep him in Indianapolis for the next five years.  Brackett was the captain and a huge influence in the locker room, so it's a very good move for the Colts.

It's also a good move by the Colts because they were able to get the deal out of the way fast, enabling them to focus on some of their other areas of need.  Due to the non tender of CB Marlin Jackson and Tim Jennings, the Colts will now switch their focus to the secondary, whose play was non-existent in their Super Bowl loss to the New Orleans Saints.  They have started the process by offering a first round tender to Pro Bowl safety Antoine Bethea, and a second round tender to Melvin Bullitt.

Schefter of ESPN says Rams Will Take Bradford

Adam Schefter appeared on a local radio show and has all but guaranteed that the St. Louis Rams will take QB Sam Bradford in the 2010 NFL Draft.  He has not spoken to any Rams' officials, but he says,

"I have spoken to enough other people and have heard enough other things that tell me there is no way the St. Louis Rams will not wind up taking Sam Bradford."

Franklin Franchised by 49ers

San Francisco 49ers join the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots as they have officially placed the franchise tag on DT Aubrayo Franklin.  Franklin, who joined San Fran in 2007, is one of the league's premier NT and the 49ers will look to put together a long-term deal as soon as possible.  With the franchise tag, Franklin is set to earn $7 million dollars in base salary.

Peppers Ready to Bounce out of Carolina

Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers has made his thoughts known and it's obvious that he is on his way out of town.  Espn's reporter, Adam Schefter, said a few weeks ago that Peppers was not pleased with the way the Panthers were handling his contract situation.  The Panthers have not contacted Peppers about the contract, or even spoke to him about retaining his services.  Last year, Peppers was not pleased with having the franchise tag placed on him, and apparently he will get his wish this year and be able to move on.  Peppers desperately wants a long-term deal and would like to make more than the $18 million he made while under the franchise tag.  If Carolina decides to place the franchise tag on Peppers, it would cost them roughly $21.8 million.  

There are plenty of teams out there that could use his services this upcoming season, but it's a matter of who is willing to fork out the cash.  Peppers will most likely want a 4-7 year contract, and I don't really know who would want to commit that type of money to a player who would turn 37 by the end of that contract.  Peppers is no doubt going to be a huge asset to any team that signs him, but I just don't think the money that he wants is going to be there.  Look for the New England Patriots, who desperately need help with the pass rush, or even the Oakland Raiders since they love to overpay for talent.
