The Minnesota Vikings can't sit around waiting for Brett Favre's decision to play or not much longer. With the drafting of Colt McCoy, they get a player who was once considered an elite NFL prospect. Their were some health concerns, but McCoy had a great performance at his Pro Day, and showed that he has fully recovered from the pinched nerve that knocked him out of the Championship game last year. Why he's good for the Vikings:
The Vikings are in bad shape if Favre decides to retire, as they have no depth behind him. Tavaris Jackson showed them already that he can't be a full-time starter, and Sage Rosenfels is a 3rd-stringer at best. The Vikings need to improve their QB position if they hope to compete every year, so this is a great choice for them.
According to NFL.Fanhouse, Washington Redskins' GM Bruce Allen has begun evaluating his own players closely, mainly QB Jason Campbell. Campbell, who has been criticized for the lackluster offense that has become a standard, is the major deciding factor on which route the Redskins will take this March. Sitting at the number 4 pick in the NFL Draft, Allen has stated that they will evaluate every snap that Campbell has taken before making a decision on whether or not to take a quarterback for the future.
"The coaches have met with Jason and (new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan) has spoken to him," Allen told Fanhouse in an interview. "But I know it sounds tedious and time consuming, but we want to look at every snap he's taken."
The story of this game was defense as Alabama dominated the Longhorns and true freshman QB Garrett Gilbert, 37-21, while Heisman candidate QB Colt McCoy watched from the sidelines. McCoy, who started the game completing both his pass attempts, was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury. The Tide defense forced Gilbert to throw 4 interceptions and lose a fumble in an ugly performance by the QB. The lone bright spot on the struggling offense was WR Jordan Shipley, who had 10 receptions for 122 yards and two touchdowns. On the other side, RB Mark Ingram became the 6th player since 1976 to win the Heisman and the Championship in the same year. Ingram was also awarded Offensive player of the Game, as he finished with 116 yards rushing on 22 carries and 2 touchdowns. Freshman RB Trent Richardson also had a good showing with 109 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns as well. Alabama QB Greg McElroy was not needed much as he finished with only 58 yards, while completing 6 of 11 attempts. This marks Alabama's first National Title since 1992.
