2. Detroit Lions (2-14)

DT Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska)  

Need help on the defensive side of the ball, as well as offensive line.  This is a spot where they can pick up Ndamukong Suh and shore up their most immediate need on defense.  The Lions were worst in the league in total points, pass yards, and total yards.

Why he's good for the Lions:

As i said before, the Lions struggled tremendously on defense.  They just traded LB Ernie Sims, so this is the first step in rebuilding the defense.  The next step is to draft some more young talent on the defensive side of the ball, mainly Outside Linebacker.

Sims To Eagles, Scheffler to Lions in 3-Team Deal

According to multiple reports, the Detroit Lions have shipped linebacker Ernie Sims to the Philadelphia Eagles, who will trade a fifth-round draft pick to the Denver Broncos, who will send tight end Tony Scheffler and a seventh-round pick to the Lions. This move was made due to the question marks concerning Sims health, as he is coming off of an injury that kept him out of 5 games last year.  The main concern with Sims has always been his ability to help in run support, and it was not too huge of a risk for the Eagles to snag him for a fifth-round pick.  Scheffler, who was already on the outs in Denver, adds another weapon for QB Matthew Stafford, and it is unknown whether or not last year's first-round draft pick Brandon Pettigrew can fully recover from the torn ACL he suffered last year.  

The main problem I have with this trade is the fact that the Lions are adding yet another hole in a defense that ranked dead last in points, total yards, and passing yards given up per game.  Although Scheffler is a nice addition to the offense, Ernie Sims is a valuable LB, despite the fact that his performance dropped off a little in 2008.  Look for this to be a huge upgrade for the Eagles, who desperately needed an upgrade in their linebacker corps.  Sims will be a huge upgrade on the weakside, and will provide better run support than many critics think.  Denver, who received the fifth-round pick from the Eagles, are just stockpiling picks and it wouldn't surprise me if they made a few draft day trades to move up at some point to nab a player that they covet.

2. Detroit Lions(2-14)

DT Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska)

While this seems like an easy pick to make for the Detroit Lions to make, there are likely two different routes that the Lions have to choose from.  While Suh is definitely the more glamorous pick, OT Russell Okung would be an ideal pick, as well.  With the Lions' offensive line struggling to keep QB Matthew Stafford off his back and in the game, this would be a great time to  draft arguably the best left tackle in the draft.  But, with a defense that surrendered over 126 yards on the ground per game, Ndamukong Suh would be a tremendous upgrade for this defense.

Chris Houston Traded to Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions started the rebuilding of their defense by acquiring CB Chris Houston from the Atlanta Falcons.  Houston, who was a former second round draft pick, became expendable when free agent CB Dunta Robinson signed this week.  In exchange for Houston, the Falcons will receive the Lions' sixth round draft pick, while also swapping fifth round picks as well.  

Vanden Bosch to the Lions

Proving that he meant business, Detroit Lions H.C. Jim Schwartz showed up at the door of former Tennessee Titan Pro Bowler Kyle Vanden Bosch just after midnight.  Schwartz and Vanden Bosch are quite familiar with each other, as Schwartz was the D.C. for the Titans during Vanden Bosch's stay with the team.  Vanden Bosch arrived in Tennessee five years ago, and is now on his way to Detroit with a four year, $26 million deal, according to 104.5 radio in Nashville.

This is a very good move for the Lions.  It shows the fans that they are trying to be active in free agency, and also that they are making an effort to turn this franchise around.  No one wants to go to the games if they don't think ownership is making a conscious effort to win.  Vanden Bosch will help to shore up a very below-average defensive line, and hopefully through the draft, they will be able to address some of their other defensive needs.
