NFL Offseason Schedule

Since there are two months left until actual football is played, I thought it would be a good idea to present a list of Restricted Free Agents that are left out there.  Today is the deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned unrestricted free agents to receive exclusive negotiating rights for rest of season if the player is not signed by another club by July 22.  This is also the deadline for old clubs to send tender to their unsigned RFAs or to extend an offer to retain exclusive negotiating rights.  This is what the St. Louis Rams are up against in regards to Safety O.J. Atogwe.  The Rams have been in constant talks with the safety, but if they don't place a high tender or sign him to an extension by midnight, he will become an unrestricted free agent.  

June 1-11 begins all of the Organized Team Activities, while June 15th starts mandatory mini-camps across the NFL.  Late July is when training camps begin, and Preseason starts in August.

26. Arizona Cardinals (10-6)

NT Dan Williams (Tennessee)  

With this pick, the Arizona Cardinals are able to shore up a defensive that lost a lot of players over the offseason.  Dan Williams is a great fit for the Cardinals, because he is a true nose tackle, and has the ability to clog gaps and stuff the run.

Why he's good for the Cardinals:

The Cardinals gave up a lot of yards on defense and they need to rebuild a defense that lost a lot of key players.  He instantly comes in and upgrades the middle of this fragile offensive line.

8. Oakland Raiders (5-11)

ILB Rolando McClain (Alabama)  

Oakland Raiders shore up the middle linebacker position with the drafting of ILB Rolando McClain.  He was the consensus best linebacker in the draft, and will instantly help the Raiders, who are slowly becoming a force on defense.

Why he's good for the Raiders:

The Raiders already have a very good pass defense.  With the addition of Groves from Jacksonville, as well as McClain, the Raiders will have a better chance at stopping the run and rushing the passer.

7. Cleveland Browns (5-11)

DB Joe Haden (Florida)  

This is a very interesting pick... The Browns can go so many possible ways here.  They are in need of a QB, they lack a pass rush, and they can't stop the run.  McClain would be an interesting pick, as well as Florida CB Joe Haden.  With Berry off the board, this pick is very difficult to see coming.  My pick:  CB Joe Haden.  I firmly believe that he is the best CB in this draft.  He brings the physical ability to jam the receiver, help the run defense, and cover any receiver down the field.  

Why he's good for the Browns:

Joe is the best cornerback in this draft.  He will instantly upgrade the Browns' defense and will also help to solidify their rushing defense.

6. Seattle Seahawks (5-11)

OT Russell Okung (Oklahoma State)  

The Seattle Seahawks are another teams that desperately need an offensive lineman.  Russell Okung is the best available and it is a blessing that he falls to this position.  I felt that it was a reach for the Seahawks to have to draft Trent Williams here, but it would be no mistake if the Seahawks come out of this draft with Okung.  

Why  he's good for the Seahawks:

Whoever ends up being the starting QB for this team will be thankful right away.  The Seahawks offensive line was one of the worst in the league, and Okung steps in as the front runner for the starting Left Tackle position.  Okung will have to try to replace Walter Jones, who was one of the best left tackles in the league for years.

5. Kansas City Chiefs (4-12)

DB Eric Berry (Tennessee)  

The Kansas City Chiefs have a few major holes to fill, but I feel they will go with someone to help shore up their offensive line.  It's a blessing that Okung falls to them, and I find it hard to believe that they will pass up on him.  Okung, I felt, was the best offensive lineman in the draft, and there is an immediate need to protect QB Matt Cassel.  Looks like the Chiefs are going with Tennessee DB Eric Berry.

Why he's good for the Chiefs:

Eric Berry is one of the most NFL-ready players in the draft.  He will add the play-making ability needed on the defensive side of the ball.  I really don't know if this was the right pick, as I firmly believe that they needed to draft offensive line.
