With the Houston Texans feeling they are few pieces away from being perennial contenders, the Texans draft Ryan Mathews to fill a big need on offense. With good complementary players in RBs Arian Foster and Steve Slaton, the only thing missing in that offense is a 20-25 carry a game RB. Mathews turned heads at the NFL Combine last month, when he ran a 4.45 40 yard dash. He can come right in and start, and while he is not considered a pass catching RB, he can come in and be an every down RB who will block and excel in the Texans' zone blocking scheme.
Why he's good for the Texans:
Ryan Mathews instantly upgrades a running attack that ranked 30th in the league last year. With a potent passing attack, this is the missing piece, and gives the Texans a very good chance at making the playoffs this upcoming season. With a few kinks to fix on defense in the later rounds, this team has the ability to turn heads.
