Panthers Looking for Help on the Offensive Side of the Ball

According to NFL.Com analyst, Gil Brandt, the Carolina Panthers will look to draft some help at the wide receiver position this year.  The Panthers, who do not have a 1st round draft pick, have the 48th overall pick in the draft. According to the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers have been seen all over scouting WR talent, and are in desperate need to help out 31 year old Steve Smith.  While Smith is still among the best in the league, he is constantly hassled with double-teams, and it would be great for QB Matt Moore to come into the season with a little bit more help.  Although top prospects Golden Tate and Dez Bryant will be long gone, look for the  Panthers to key on LSU's Brandon LaFell, USC's Damian Williams.

This is a good idea for the Panthers.  They need someone to step up and help out Steve Smith.  He's turning 32 and he isn't going to be around forever.  I saw John Fox roaming around paying attention to Aaron Hernandez, as well as WR David Nelson while I was at Pro Day.  Nelson really stepped up and showed me something when he ran a 4.47 in the 40 yard dash.  Look for some type of help on the offensive side of the ball with their top pick.

29. New York Jets (9-7)

WR Golden Tate (Notre Dame)

The New York Jets need more game changers on offense and Golden Tate is their guy.  With the ability to take the ball the distance every time he touches the ball, Tate will prove to be a great asset to QB Mark Sanchez.  Tate went into the NFL Combine as a mid to late 2nd round draft pick.  After running a 4.41 in the 40 yard dash and displaying his abilities there, he propelled himself into the first round.  The Jets love their pass rushers, and need a linebacker, but they need to aid Sanchez in his maturation process as a quarterback.  Tate has the ability to become an elite playmaker in the NFL.

Why he's good for the Jets:

The Jets ranked 31st in the league in passing offense and it was because they relied heavily on the run and also had no game breakers on offense.  Since 2005, WR Braylon Edwards has had a pretty pedestrian career, and perhaps another year with the new team will help, but they still need someone who has the ability to take it the distance.  The defense is set, but the offense has a lot to improve, so this is the right move to make.

Top rated OT Russell Okung was unable to finish workouts when he endured a minor groin injury during a drill.  The injury, although minor, did prevent him from taking part in the vertical jump, broad jump, 3 cone drill, and shuttle drill.  He was on his way to having a stellar combine, in which he put up 38 reps on the bench press and posted a 5.17 40 yard dash.

21. Golden Tate, WR

Cincinnati Bengals(10-6)

The Cincinnati Bengals put together a really nice season, where they ranked in the top 7 in all defensive categories.  The one thing that has kind of tailed off is the vaunted passing attack that they were once known for.  The Bengals only managed 181 yards through the air per game, and although they did get a great year from RB Cedric Benson, they have a few holes to fill.  Notre Dame's WR Golden Tate is probably the 2nd best WR in the draft as it stands now, depending on what happens at the combine.  Once his hands are on the ball, he displays the quickness and agility to outmaneuver defenders and make players miss.  While not the fastest player in the world, he does have 4.4 speed and great "football speed."  He's got great hands and the ability to make tough plays, but sometime his lack of concentration does get the better of him.  He is a bit raw, but has loads of potential, as he has only been a WR for three years.

Why he's good for the Bengals:

With Chad Ochocinco on the wrong side of 30, and Laveranues Coles not really living up to his talent level, it would be in the Bengals' best interest to develop some younger WR talent.  Not to mention that Ochocinco would be a very nice WR to gain some experience from.
