Tomlinson to the Jets

LaDainian Tomlinson finally made his choice today: the New York Jets.  Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Jets and Tomlinson agreed upon a two-year deal.  This past week, L.T. visited both the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets, but finally agreed to join the backfield of the Jets.  He will join Shonn Greene in the backfield, and hopefully replace some of Thomas Jones' production.  Jones, who spent the past three years as a Jet, was released this off season and has since then joined the Kansas City Chiefs.  

Sproles will not be Back

Fresh off the release of LaDainian Tomlinson, the San Diego Chargers will not retain the services of Darren Sproles on another one-year contract.  This means the Chargers will be in dire need to replace the services of their top two running backs.  Sproles, who was the Chargers' franchise player last year, was due to earn 110% of what he earned last year since he would become a restricted free agent.  He would be due to make $7.3 million dollars this upcoming season.

Chargers Shopping Cromartie

Last week, trade rumors were swirling around the San Diego area due to a post on LB Shaun Phillips' twitter account.  It stated that CB Antonio Cromartie was being shopped around for a RB, and that Dallas Cowboys would swap RB Tashard Choice for Cromartie.  Those rumors were shot down by reporters, but apparently there is some truth to the rumors.  Since then, the San Diego Chargers have admitted that they are looking for either a running back or draft picks for the Cromartie, who has apparently fallen out of favor with Chargers' brass.

Cromartie is an interesting player.  He possesses above-average cover skills, but is really lacking in run support.  As we all saw, there was no effort during the playoff game against the Jets, where he completely whiffed on a tackle against RB Shonn Greene.  2nd year CB Antoine Cason has shown flashes of something special, and I'm not too sure about Cromartie being missed in San Diego.  I do see some team jumping on the opportunity to snatch Cromartie for cheap, with Dallas needing secondary help and also having the running back depth to get the trade done.  Also, with RB LaDainian Tomlinson pretty much a done deal to be gone this upcoming year, there is a definite lack of depth at that position for the Chargers. 

Top NFL Draft Prospects

14. C.J. Spiller, RB

Seattle Seahawks(5-11)

Although the Seahawks need help on the offensive line, it would be hard to pass up a player such as Spiller.  What he brings to this team is a triple threat.  He has the ability to help this team through rushing, receiving, and special teams.  His big play ability has been shown throughout his four year career and he may be the fastest player in the draft.  Although he isn't a power back, he does have an ability to run between the tackles, but is at his best in open space.  He has great hands and great ball carrying skills, as he only fumbled twice in four years.  His only problem would most likely be pass protection, as he spent most of his time creating mismatches against safeties and linebackers.    

Why he's good for the Seahawks:

Spiller's ability to run and receive makes him a dual threat and he is one of the most athletic players in the draft.  If the Seahawks do draft a young QB in the top 10, he will be a good option out of the backfield and will help the growth of that QB.  Think about how well it worked out for Philip Rivers having a RB such as LaDainian Tomlinson.  Also, with the inability of Seahawks RB Julius Jones, and the growth of RB Justin Forsett, it would not hurt to bring in a dynamic player such as Spiller.  There needs to be some change for a team that only averaged 97.9 yards per game on the ground.
