Marshall Headed to Miami Dolphins

Just a day after rumors that WR Ted Ginn was on the Miami Dolphins' trading block, sources have told ESPN that the Denver Broncos will trade bad boy WR Brandon Marshall to the Dolphins for a 2nd-round pick in this year's NFL Draft, as well as a 2nd-round pick in next year's draft.  

"Marshall is scheduled to fly to Miami to take his physical and, if he passes, sign what will be one of the most lucrative wide receiver deals in NFL history, according to league sources."

Marshall, who is a one of the best receivers in the league, will help this offense greatly.  This might allow the Dolphins to hold on to Ted Ginn and allow him to hold down the slot position, which is a position he is better suited for.  This also makes the AFC East a lot more interesting, because this is a definite answer to the New York Jets' trade for the other troubled WR Santonio Holmes.  

Santonio Holmes Traded to Jets for Pick

WR Santonio Holmes, a former 1st round draft pick and Super Bowl MVP, has been traded by Pittsburgh Steelers to the New York Jets.  Holmes, who is facing a 4 game suspension for substance abuse, was traded for a 5th rounder in this year's NFL Draft, according to  Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post.

This is a low-risk, high-reward deal for the New York Jets, as they were most likely spending picks on a wide receiver anyway.  Santonio brings the play-making ability that Mark Sanchez needs in order to succeed.  Now, the question is, what are the Steelers going to do to make up for that lost production on the offensive side of the ball.

29. New York Jets (9-7)

WR Golden Tate (Notre Dame)

The New York Jets need more game changers on offense and Golden Tate is their guy.  With the ability to take the ball the distance every time he touches the ball, Tate will prove to be a great asset to QB Mark Sanchez.  Tate went into the NFL Combine as a mid to late 2nd round draft pick.  After running a 4.41 in the 40 yard dash and displaying his abilities there, he propelled himself into the first round.  The Jets love their pass rushers, and need a linebacker, but they need to aid Sanchez in his maturation process as a quarterback.  Tate has the ability to become an elite playmaker in the NFL.

Why he's good for the Jets:

The Jets ranked 31st in the league in passing offense and it was because they relied heavily on the run and also had no game breakers on offense.  Since 2005, WR Braylon Edwards has had a pretty pedestrian career, and perhaps another year with the new team will help, but they still need someone who has the ability to take it the distance.  The defense is set, but the offense has a lot to improve, so this is the right move to make.  

Tomlinson to the Jets

LaDainian Tomlinson finally made his choice today: the New York Jets.  Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Jets and Tomlinson agreed upon a two-year deal.  This past week, L.T. visited both the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets, but finally agreed to join the backfield of the Jets.  He will join Shonn Greene in the backfield, and hopefully replace some of Thomas Jones' production.  Jones, who spent the past three years as a Jet, was released this off season and has since then joined the Kansas City Chiefs.  

Cromartie Traded to Jets

Antonio Cromartie is on his way out of San Diego, as the New York Jets traded a conditional draft pick for the cornerback.  Cromartie will line up opposite Pro Bowler Darrelle Revis to form a very good cornerback tandem.  Cromartie is set to replace Lito Sheppard, who was released by the Jets this offseason.  

The Jets really wanted to upgrade their secondary, and it will be a 3rd rounder that could become a 2nd rounder if certain conditions are met.  Look for the Chargers to do a lot of work this offseason retooling that team and getting them prepared to make another playoff run.  Cromartie had fallen out of favor with the Chargers, so it was good to get him out of there asap.  I think that Cromartie can have a very good career with the Jets, and look for them to become one of the better defensive secondary in the league.
